This quilt was made as a stack and wack quilt. You stack 6 layer of fabric on top of each other, matching the same repeat designs. Then cut them and sew them back together to creat this neat design. All the border fish fabric is the same as the center octangon fabric.

Block of the Month--Tri County Guild--Texas

When I was a member of Tri-County Guild in Cypress Texas, I participated in the block of the month. How it works is-- you make two blocks of the guild's choosing. One block goes in a drawing for all participates and the other one is donated to have made for an donated to a charity group. I won 20 block and then I made a few more to make the quilt the size I wanted.

I'm not a bright orange person at all. I saw this fabric in Bakersfield California at Strawberry Patches. The pattern called for 3 X 3 rows. I wanted it just a little bigger. This will be in the Hawaii Quilt Guild show, April 29th-May 9, 2010. Just in case you're in the neighborhood, stop by our show.

I have made this quilt as a sample for the T-Shirt class I will be teaching. The class will we offered in June and July at The Quilt Hut in Honolulu Hawaii. The sashing and border is the wrong side of the Hawaiian print fabric. I have made a pattern on how to make this quilt. I will have them for sale at quilt stores.

I used the pockets and buttons of some of the outfits.

Lable for back. I used the lace trim off the outfit she is wearing on the picture. The fabric from the outfit is used on the front of the quilt.

This quilt was made for a friend in Texas. We used one sleeve and the back neckline of a wedding dress of Stacey's Grandmother. Stacey gave me hankies, dollies and pillowcases from her grandmother also. It was fun planning how to show all these items on this quilt. On the back of the quilt, I put a fabric photo copy of her Grandmother in her wedding dress. This quilt was shown at the Honolulu Quilt Guild show in May and then sent to Stacey before Mothers Day. Stacey then gave the quilt to her mother for Mothers Day 2009.

This fabric is Daiwabo Taupe Fabric from Japan. I bought it at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, last year. I've never seen any fabric like this before. I wanted to make this quilt for myself so I put Minkie fabric on the back. I've had a lot of friends tell me it looks great I should enter it in a quilt show. So, we have sold our house in Hoston and we are moving to Honolulu. The guild in Honlulu is having a quilt show the end of April. I entered this quilt and another one also.

Once upon a time, in Bakersfield California a 4-year-old boy named Eli Haushalter had a hard time going to sleep in his own room, at night. His Grammie, Susan Haushalter, lived in Houston, Texas and would come to visit him. Grammie brought a book to read to Eli at night before bed. The book, "No Dragons On My Quilt", was a big hit with Eli. Grammie had to read it over and over every night before Eli went to bed. Every time Grammie came to visit or Eli came to visit Grammie she would read the book to him. Then one night Grammie said should we make a quilt like the one in the story. Eli said yes, so he colored all the blocks and gave them to Grammie and she made the quilt. Then on Christmas Day 2007 Gammie gave the finished quilt to Eli. Sweet Dreams Eli!
